Behind the Jar : Everything About Our Honey

Q: Your honey is neither the cheapest nor the most expensive on the market. How do you price your honey?

A: At IndianBees, our pricing reflects a simple philosophy: you should pay for the quality of the honey, not for corporate overhead or marketing fluff. We balance exceptional purity with everyday value.

Why we aren’t the cheapest on the market:

  • Uncompromised Purity: Our honey is exactly as the bees made it—absolutely nothing is added, and nothing is removed. Mass-market commercial brands can offer cheaper honey delivered in minutes, but we refuse to cut corners on quality.
  • Ethical Sourcing: We ensure that our hardworking beekeepers are paid fairly for their labor and expertise.
  • Direct Shipping: We ship limited-batch stock directly from the beekeepers to your door. This bespoke logistics channel costs a bit more than mass-distribution, but it guarantees freshness and traceability.

Why we aren’t the most expensive:

  • No Middlemen: There is no chain of distributors between you and the beekeeper taking a cut.
  • Zero Corporate Fluff: We don’t maintain massive infrastructure, and we don't spend your money on expensive advertising campaigns.
  • Smart, Practical Packaging: Instead of expensive glass jars that drive up shipping and handling costs, we use high-quality, food-grade plastic bottles. They are perfectly safe for transport, require minimal packaging, and keep our logistics costs low.

We keep our handling costs to an absolute minimum so that every rupee you spend goes directly toward premium honey and the people who harvest it.

Q: Where is your honey produced?

A: We harvest our honey exclusively from the lush hills of the Western Ghats in Southern India.

  • The Location: Our hives are placed along the borders of the Kottayam and Idukki districts, where native forests and spice plantations naturally blend together.
  • The Environment: Many of our beehives sit on the edge of the Periyar Tiger Reserve and its buffer zones.
  • The Result: Because our bees forage in an area with incredible, untouched plant and floral diversity, our honey has a uniquely rich and natural profile.

Q: How do you ensure the traceability of your honey?

A: We believe in complete transparency, from the hive to your home. You should always know exactly where your food comes from.

  • Isolated Batches: Our expert beekeepers harvest and store the honey from each apiary in separate containers throughout the entire chain of custody. We do not mix batches. This allows us to strictly monitor the unique quality, taste, and texture of every single harvest.
  • Track Your Jar: Once bottled, every single jar is labeled with a unique QR code or manual batch code. You can use this code to trace your exact bottle of honey right back to the specific apiary where it was made.

Q: How is your honey collected and processed?

A: Our entire process is designed to protect our bees, preserve the honey's natural nutrients, and guarantee absolute purity. We do not use industrial machines or artificial heat.

Here is our traditional, step-by-step process:

  • Patient Harvesting: We wait until more than 80% of the honeycomb cells are naturally sealed by the bees before collecting. A sealed cell means the bees have fully processed the honey, ensuring it is mature and has the perfect moisture content.
  • Bee-Friendly Extraction : After gently moving the bees aside, we uncap the combs and extract the honey using a simple centrifugal spinner. This method leaves the delicate honeycomb completely intact, allowing the bees to easily return and refill it within just 12 to 15 days.
  • Raw & Natural Processing: The extracted honey is gently filtered through a fine cloth—never ultra-filtered or pasteurized. To remove any excess moisture without destroying the natural enzymes, we naturally sun-dry the honey in flat, food-grade steel containers for 3 to 4 days.
  • Bottled at the Source: To prevent any contamination or mishandling, the honey is bottled and coded right at the beekeeper’s home before making its way to you.
