Spice Plantation Honey

Spice Plantation Honey

Harvested from small-scale spice plantations nestled in the misty hills of Kerala's Western Ghats, this distinctive honey reflects a landscape where cardamom, black pepper, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and other traditional spices are cultivated by generations of small-scale farming families. This honey is the result of a generations-old partnership between spice-growing families and the native Apis cerana indica bees that forage among their plantations. Spice Honey is totally foraged by bees, never flavored. Every drop carries the essence of flowers visited by the bees, creating a naturally complex honey with subtle aromatic notes unique to Kerala's legendary spices. This is more than honey. It is a taste of the ancient Malabar Coast — a region that once drew merchants and explorers from across the world in search of its precious spices. Rich, fragrant, and deeply rooted in place, our Spice Honey offers a rare opportunity to experience the soul of Kerala's ancient spice trade through the work of its bees. Every bottle is traceable to the exact apiary where it was produced. As flowering patterns, weather and seasonal conditions change, each batch may display its own unique color, texture and flavor profile. As we often say, our honey tastes exactly the way the bees made it.

The Premium Standard: Taste & Texture

We promise you one thing: from your very first spoonful, you will taste the difference. Long before launching our website, we built a community of hundreds of loyal customers across the country via WhatsApp, all vouching for the authentic raw taste of our honey. Each batch source will taste different because we don't blend, heat and standardize the taste - that's only possible when you produce honey in a factory. We ensure this purity through strict quality controls, including testing at a reputable regional lab, retaining apiary samples for six months, and maintaining full internal traceability for every single harvest.

Our Story

Authenticity and Origin of Our Honey

Indian Bees is a collective of small-time beekeepers from the Western Ghats of Kerala, a global biodiversity hotspot and home to endemic flora and fauna. The landscape is famous for its spices: cardamom, tea, coffee, pepper, cloves, cinnamon, etc. Our beehives are kept in forest-fringe plantations where spices are grown. The nectar and pollen are collected from a wide variety of wild plants and spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, clove, coffee, and pepper. Most of these small-scale farms do not use chemical pesticides, and the forest is pristine. That wilderness and taste are the essence of our honey.

About

Our Story

True Indian Bees...

We work exclusively with Apis cerana indica, India’s native honey bee, which has evolved alongside the landscapes of the Western Ghats. These bees are the wild bees of India, domesticated through near-natural methods by our expert beekeepers in their native conditions. Our beekeeping practices are still traditional—we do not migrate to ensure year-round production .Our hives stay in one place, allowing the bees to experience the full cycle of Western Ghats seasons, from heavy rains to hot summers. Importantly, we do not feed them sugar syrup during the monsoon; instead, we leave the last harvest in the honey chamber, a far more efficient way to maintain healthy bees. We see our bees as partners in an ecosystem, not units of production.

Our Story

Traceability

On each bottle, you will find a QR code that allows you to trace the bottle back to a specific Beek (beekeeper). This is to ensure complete accountability and traceability of the honey to its true single origin. Yes! We prefer the premium single origins to the blended versions of honey. Our honey will have different shades ranging from golden yellow to dark orange, depending on the season and the flowers from which the spirit of honey originated from. Our honey is not heated, blended, or mass-produced in factories, and we keep single-origin as one of our most valued qualities. Our bottles are packed in simple, biodegradable packaging and shipped to you by one of our Beeks.

Sustainable Beekeeping Practices

Our honey is from the Forest & Forest fringe Plantations of Western Ghats. Its a small collective of traditional beekeepers who ensure best practices & quality than quantity. You won’t find our honey on mass e-commerce marketplaces. We sell exclusively right here at indianbees.org because our harvests are strictly limited. We only bottle what our beekeepers can harvest responsibly each season. prioritizing ecological balance over mass production. By keeping our supply chain entirely internal—sourcing solely from our own dedicated beekeepers—we choose trusted, uncompromising quality over high sales volumes. When a batch is gone, it’s truly gone until the next season.

The Beeks behind indianbees

Indianbees.org is founded and managed by Michelle, a fifth-generation beekeeper who inherited apiculture as treasured family knowledge. She learned the craft directly from her father and grandfather. Having recently completed school, she is now pursuing her degree in Life Sciences. Launching Indianbees has been Michelle's vision since 2021, marking what she calls her "adulthood transformation" as she steps into her role as the organization's leader. She has represented India at the IMYB (International Meeting of Young Beekeepers) in 2023 and 2024. Michelle manages her own apiary and trains new beekeepers. Moving forward, her mission is clear: to grow as a skilled apiarist, build a sustainable business, and serve as a committed conservationist for India's pollinators.
